The Matiowski Farmers’ Market has steadily grown in size and popularity since its inception in 2005; it is now one of the largest markets in Northwestern Ontario. Every Wednesday from mid June to early October, the Whitecap Pavilion plays host to just over 100 Market Vendors selling authentic handmade and homegrown products.
At the Market, you will find a variety of farm fresh meats, locally grown fresh produce, and delicious baked goods, dips and spreads. As well, local artwork, jewellery, and textiles all created by area artisans. In fact, offerings at Matiowski Farmers’ Market change week to week and are always a pleasant surprise. Support and grow our local economy by shopping here.
The City of Kenora offers various parking options in the downtown core. Please ensure to follow parking signage at all times and especially during busy Market Days.
FREE Shuttle Service
Due to the pandemic, the shuttle service is not offered in 2020. FREE shuttle service to the Matiowski Farmers’ Market takes market shoppers to the Whitecap Pavilion from the Kenora Recreation Centre. Those wanting to take advantage of the shuttle may park in Lot 3 or Lot 4 at the Kenora Recreation Centre at no charge, and then gather at the loading zone by the tennis courts. The service was first provided in 2017 for a three week trial period. It was very well utilized during the trial period and will continue to be offered on Wednesdays in July and August.
Guidelines for customers while at the Market
Since it is not business as usual at the Market, customers also have to adapt their behaviours.
Masks are strongly recommended.
If possible please only have “one person per family” shopping.
Read and follow all market signs that communicate pedestrian traffic flows and other Covid 19 measures.
While lining up to enter the market practice physical distancing and we ask “no smoking” while in line out of respect for others and the market being a “smoke-free” event.
There will be one entrance and one exit; please follow the arrows and signage while practicing social distancing throughout the Market.
Maintain physical distancing from other vendors and customers (2 meters).
Market staff will be monitoring and enforcing limits to how many people can enter the Market area. The spacing setup throughout the tent allows for customers to move between tables and physical distancing spaces as they navigate the market.
Staff are present to direct people into and out of the Market and to ensure customers do not hang around and socialize within the tent as this will create congestion.
Hand sanitizer and/or hand-washing supplies will be readily available for all vendors and customers throughout the market.
Predominantly essential items, such as food, shall be sold or offered for sale; in addition to hygiene products and a local community table at this time.
Vendors will work to minimize displays and offer pre-packaged foods at rounded prices, to reduce cash handling as much as possible.
No food samples can be distributed to customers.
No seating areas or ‘play areas’ can be set-up around the market area at this time.
Do not eat food at the Market.
We understand this is an enormous change from business as usual at the Market. We need to remain diligent with these measures now so that we can return to all the fun and enjoyment the Market brings in the near future.
In addition to the summer-long Farmers’ Market, there are Specialty Markets held throughout the year at various venues in the city. Follow Tourism Kenora on Facebook to find out where the next specialty market will be!
