The COVID-19 pandemic has caused numerous in-person events to be cancelled or modified, many Canada Day celebrations included. To help stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community, it was decided that the July 1st event should be cancelled for 2020. We made this decision based on limiting the risks of large gatherings and supporting social distancing protocols to keep our community safe.
In Kenora July 1st is not only a day to celebrate Canada’s birthday, but it is also a summer favourite when locals, seasonal residents, and tourists gather on Kenora’s Harbourfront. We recognize the annual event will be missed by all this summer.
If social distancing protocols change in the coming months, we may be able to host a fireworks display later this summer. Announcements about a summer celebration will be posted on Tourism Kenora’s Facebook page.
We encourage you to explore fun and safe ways to celebrate Canada’s 153rd birthday at home or the cottage. Ensure you are following the recommended social gathering numbers, staying 2 metres apart, washing your hands or using hand sanitizer, disinfecting frequently touched surfaces, and minimizing travel.
